24 Hour Access

24 hour access is exclusively available at Odyssey 24 Hour Health and Fitness Centres, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. After hours security is maintained through a sophisticated system, the same access system as many hospitals and government buildings. It consists of a card key system, video cameras and other security features. The system is wired directly to our security company and is armed whenever you are inside the centre.

Staff/Customer Service

From the moment you walk in the door, our helpful staff, trainers and kinesiologist will be there to assist you. Our staff will give you a tour of the club and answer any questions you may have. Odyssey’s Personal Trainers will help you start a personalized training program making it motivating and entertaining . . . every time!

Olympic Lifting Platforms

What is Olympic Weightlifting?

It is sad that these great movements hardly exist anymore in the training programs of the West. Those who are performing Olympic weightlifting still have a clear-cut advantage over those who are not in improving performance. How often do you walk into a gym and you see somebody snatching, or clean and jerking a barbell? Not often, if ever.

Many people are dragged into fearing these lifts because of the words of a few. Over time these lifts have been credited as being the most dangerous form of exercise in existence. What people don’t understand is this: exercises do not injure people, people injure people. It’s the uneducated lifter using poor form and inadequate warm-up that results in injuries. The safety of Olympic lifting has been documented in several studies. One study has shown that Olympic lifting has the lowest number of injuries per 100hrs trained compared to both bodybuilding and power lifting.

Olympic lifts use a greater range of motion, which exposes the connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and muscle fibers to various angles and degrees of resistance. This helps the body become more functional, in that it can learn to cope with a variety of forces and activities without becoming injured.

Odyssey Fitness has two professionally made Olympic Lifting Platforms and many bars and bumper plates to train in a safe effective manner. They are in our newly renovated Functional Room.

Functional Training Room

Cross-training (also known as conditioning) refers to training in different ways to improve overall performance. It takes advantage of the particular effectiveness of each training method, while at the same time attempting to neglect the shortcomings of that method by combining it with other methods that address its weaknesses.

If you want results quick, kettlebell training is for you! Kettlebells are solid cast iron balls with handles that work your entire body as you go through the dynamic exercises. Instead of isolating single muscle groups, kettlebell training delivers full-body fitness.

Pull-ups and Chin-ups are arguably one of the best exercises for developing upper body strength and fitness. Can’t do a Pull-up? No problem, with our set of bands to help assist you in many body weight exercises everyone can do a Pull-up in a safe and functional manner.

This NEW area is a dedicated room with lots of floor space for whatever kind of functional training you may want to do, this includes but is not limited to:

Basic Gymnastics exercises: Pull-ups, Push-ups, Box jumps, Plyometrics etc…

Intermediate Gymnastics exercises on rings: Muscle-ups, Levers, Skin-the-Cat etc…

Kettle bell Conditioning: Swings, Cleans, Snatches, Turkish-get-ups etc…

Medicine Ball and Bosu Ball Training also…

There are literally too many options here to explain. We offer an orientation and training on any of the above exercises and more. Also to note, while we do not do CrossFit classes at Odyssey if you are looking for a gym to do this type of training in we are the one for you. Most gyms shy away from this type of training as they fear it, we embrace it for those that want to perform their best possible in any given situation and will offer information on this style of training if you have questions and need guidance.

Free Weights & Strength Training Machines

One of the largest free weight area on Vancouver Island is contained within Odyssey 24 Hour Health and Fitness Centre. Countless weights are provided adjacent to specialized HammerStrength and Apex machines. What more can we say other than we maintain our equipment to an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness and maintenance. Far more equipment than could ever be required is available for your use 24 hours a day. Many workout stations are duplicated to ensure there is no waiting.

Free Weights and Equipment: 3 Squat racks, 3 Smith Machines, Dumbells up to 150 lbs, many different benches

Machines: Many different Apex stations and cables, Hammer Strength and Cybex Plate loaded Machines.

Cardio Theatre

Odyssey 24 Hour Health and Fitness Centres all have a complete cardio centre with a wide variety of equipment including; Eliptical trainers, upright and recumbent bikes, rowing machines, stair-climbers and tread-mills. 50″ Plasma T.V.’s and closed captioning allow you to select your favourite channel and work out while catching the news, the game, or your favourite show.

Group Fitness Room

Anytime there are no classes running all members have access to the group fitness room to use the space for stretching or floor work.
